The Internet Sends Me Cake

If you send me a cake, I post a link to your work on the internet (both on this site and on twitter). You will be judged solely on your cake rather than your work, which makes this an equal opportunity link site. It is that simple and that awesome (for me and my studiomates). Cakes can be sent to 3009 22nd St, San Francisco, CA 94110. I have a preference for lemon cake with buttercream icing, cakes with fruit in them, or any cake with cream cheese frosting, but by all means be inventive. Cupcakes, pastries, and pies will also be accepted, but anything sent would preferably be handmade. I can buy fancy cakes if I want to, but I want YOUR weird lopsided handmade creation. If you are an out-of-the-country-er and this is not possible or you'd rather not risk fedexing your creation, feel free to bake a cake for your friends, take a picture, and send me your friends' cake assessment and a photo of the cake (along with your url of course) and it will be posted. Also, please know that this was set up with good and silly intentions only, please don't be offended that I like both cake and the internet.

Nicola over at Twisty Noodle sent me this fun site where you can customize a cake themed coloring sheet! I colored it on the computer because I am a robot, but this would be very fun to print out and color yourself, be you a tiny person or a grown up. I was such a color-within-the-lines kid, can you tell?

Many Thanks to Monica of hola!design for these COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS lemon ricotta cookies!!!! These are definitely my favorite taste-wise so far. I want to ask her for the recipe but if I were her I would guard it with my life. She even popped by in person to drop them off! Unfortunately I was not in the studio yesterday so they were intercepted by Tina (aka Swiss Miss) and when I came in today all but 2 were eaten!! They were obviously a big hit with everyone. Monica even sent this awesome postcard she found in Italy a few years ago! It is now a permanent part of my desk decoration. High five to you Monica, everyone go check out her site!!

My friend Tim Goodman sent in this “teach a man to fish…” (catholic school flashback!) approach to “sending me cake” — so funny! I definitely missed the girly easy-bake period of childhood (was too busy spraining my ankles playing any and every sport). Tim also was kind enough to bring me super tiny cupcakes for my birthday. Can’t wait to try this baby out!

This is probably the most creative take on “sending me cake” you’ll ever see. Michael Koganzon, I salute you. Now please email me your website so you can get a little credit for this smart, smart solution!
UPDATE: Just found out this was actually sent in by my pal Frank Chimero and Michael K is the amazon seller he bought it from for four dollars. HA!

Featured on Eater National!

Raphael, the editor over at Eater National interviewed me for The Internet Sends Me Cake this week. Eater is an amazing food-centric site with city specific sub-sites that keep foodies up to date with what is happening in their area. So pumped to be featured! I’m definitely an avid Eater reader when it comes to finding new restaurants.

Kim Zingale of poccuo.com sent in these absolutely ridiculous peanut butter and chocolate brownies. These things are so rich and delicious I can totally understand why she gets rave reviews from friends every time she makes them! They were wrapped up in beautiful paper (a reused calendar, smart and sustainable!) for an excellent presentation. Definitely check out Kim’s site!

Ok, so if you’re going to send in non-handmade goods, this is the way to do it. Katie Kirk and Nathan Strandberg at EightHourDay sent in this lovely collection of amazing teensy cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop right here in New York City. The studiomates agree, these were delicious, rich-but-not-too-rich, and beautiful! I especially liked the carrot cupcake. Studiomate Jennifer of Minor Details called them “little bundles of goodness”. Definitely check them out!
